The fear of failure is one of the most common fears that people experience, and it can hold us back from achieving our full potential. We often feel like the embarrassment of failing is worse than the actual failure itself, so we avoid taking risks or trying something new. However, fear can also be a powerful motivator and a force for good in our lives.
Yet Fear can be your biggest SUCCESS.
During a recent speaking engagement at the ICBCH Hypnosis Conference in Florida, I had to face two of my biggest fears: public speaking and alligators. I was nervous and felt like I might fail to deliver a message that would inspire my audience. However, as I began to speak, the doubt started to dissipate, and I found myself in a state of flow.
The audience was captivated, and I realized that fear can be our biggest triumph.
Face the Fear
After the conference, I decided to face another fear of mine – alligators. I had always been afraid of these creatures since childhood, but I knew that if I didn’t confront this, it would continue to hold me back in life. So, I signed up for an airboat tour. As we glided through the murky waters, gators lurking beneath the surface, my heart pounded. But as our tour guide began to educate us about these magnificent creatures and their importance to the ecosystem, the feelings began to dissipate. I even found myself appreciating their beauty and power.
In facing these head-on, I realized that fear can be both a hindrance and a motivator. It’s up to us to decide which role we let it play in our lives. By acknowledging them and working through them, we can gain a sense of power and control over our lives. It can be both a deterrent and our biggest supporter. Primarily, it is an innate emotion that has existed in mankind since the beginning of human history; it helps to keep us guarded against danger.
The Apprehension of Failing
As a hypnotherapist, I have helped many clients overcome their fears and turn them into successes. I have seen people who have tried various methods that didn’t work for them, some who had been in therapy for 17 years and are now in a better place after just a few sessions.
The apprehension of failing is a widespread concern that I assist my clients in overcoming. It’s important to recognize that past failures do not dictate future success.
As Henry Ford once said;
“One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.”
